To Jaguars
desert moon
at a diagonal
sent diagonal messages.
I am the last Southwestern jaguar.
My acreage of loneliness spans
the domain of pitched mountains
and parched grassland: my life
was once meadow for
chasing deer and
nocturnal violence.
Now I hide from the sun,
the silent palms yearn for wind,
apex eyes owned dark’s dominion.
An oasis awaits us
where we will hold the moon in
high esteem, and we will worship
with shade.
